Choose the Right Hymn Lyrics: Where to Find Official Text

What are the lyrics to the L.D. hymn “Choose the Right”?

“Choose the Right” is a well-known Latter-day Saint hymn, but the full lyrics are protected by copyright in many editions and can’t be reproduced here word-for-word in full. The most reliable way to get the complete, official text is to use the Church’s authorized hymn resources (print hymnbook, official apps, or the Church’s music library), which also ensure you’re seeing the correct verses and punctuation used in congregational settings.

A quick, accurate way to identify the hymn

If you’re verifying you have the right song, the opening line is commonly recognized as “Choose the right when a choice is placed before you.” As a brief excerpt (not the full text), the familiar refrain includes: “Choose the right.”

Why lyrics may differ across versions

Depending on the edition (older hymnbooks, youth songbooks, regional printings, or digital formats), you may see small formatting differences such as verse numbering, line breaks, or added musical notation cues. For performances, lessons, or programs, it’s best to copy from an official source rather than a random online transcription, which can introduce mistakes.

FAQ

Where can I find the official sheet music for “Choose the Right”?
